All About the Alder Inn

The Alder Inn in South Lake Tahoe is a quaint boutique hotel located in one of the most popular areas on the south shore of Lake Tahoe.  Our idea of the perfect hotel includes all the comforts of home; such as  beautifully decorated bedrooms and private bathrooms, snacks, a beautiful pool and hot tub....which we refer to as our back yard; all while being pampered with 24 hour customer service of a fine hotel or bed and breakfast.  The property consist of three two-story buildings with a large parking lot with ample parking.  Nestled on Ski Run Blvd., it is only a short walk down the lamp post lined walking path to the Lake Tahoe Ski Run Marina where one can find south shore lake side shopping, dining, sandy beaches and the Famous Tahoe Queen Paddle boat.  Guest can also catch a free "Blue go" shuttle to Heavenly ski  area (our personal favorite) which picks up every half hour directly outside the lobby and will drop you off at the California Lodge lift ticket counter in less than five minutes. Also located on the scenic street are many fine restaurants such as the Blue Angel Cafe, Cafe Fiore, Nepheles, Scusa, Red Hut and Riva Grill. Also located within 2 blocks are Ski and board renters, bicycle renters, day spas, nail spa and wine tasting bars such as the Après Wine Company. One can truly come to Lake Tahoe and never leave Ski Run Blvd.!

A short drive in winter can land you at one of many area ski resorts including Kirkwood, Sierra, Homewood, Squaw Valley, North Star, and Diamond Peak to name a few. A few minutes away in Stateline, Nevada, one can find all day and night entertainment at one of the casinos such as Harvey's, Harrah's or MontBleu. The casinos offer entertainment shows, restaurants and night clubs like Vex and Blu that will keep you busy until the sun comes up.

A little History About Us

In February 2010, we purchased the Alder Inn and moved our family from Texas to South Lake Tahoe. Believe me, the Inn as you see it today looks nothing like it did when we decided to call it home. Not only was it a vacant and shabby motel, it was definitely stuck in another era. One room at a time, we emptied the contents and began to work our magic. By July 4th of 2010 we had completed about 12 rooms......paint, carpet, furniture, sinks, lights.....you name it and we had replaced it with modern and brand new items. Four months later we had completed every room, it had been exhausting, fun and rewarding all at the same time. We decided from the start to make every room unique, decorated around one single item that is special to us in some sort of way. And the beds......we spared no expense!  We purchased name brand top of the line Euro pillow top mattresses and the finest quality high thread count linens. Our beds are super comfy and stand 32" high, no doubt princess quality.

The old pool, with its peeling blue paint on the inside and carpeted patio area just screamed 1970. The old hot tub was plastic and unlevel, and could hold about two people.... if they were brave enough. So, we called the excavators and the professionals, and the area was transformed into the beautiful sparkling pool and spa that you see today. We added the chique cabana beds, cushioned furniture, firepits, umbrellas and lots of flowers to create a backyard atmosphere......definitely not your average hotel pool area. Oh, and all the small evergreens and trees located around the property.......selected and planted by us, along with all the grass and granite boulders.

Thanks for reading our story......now come stay with us and tell us yours!
